Juutilainen has over 25 years of experience in editing and directing, receiving over 60 awards, including 13 Emmys, 10 Tellys, and DuPont-Columbia. His first documentary, “Herbert’s Hippopotamus” about philosopher Herbert Marcuse, was honored at the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. He directed “That is My CASA” about the US foster care system, documentaries for PBS including “Ingrid Croce” about songwriter Ingrid Croce and “Balboa Park” about Spanish heritage in California’s architecture. He is currently the editor on Lindy Laub’s “The Most Dangerous Man in the World” about Leon Trotsky, was the editor on Laura Nix’s 2020 Academy Award nominated “Walk, Run, Cha-Cha” for NY Times Op-Docs, “Bringing King to China” by Kevin McKiernan/Haskell Wexler, and “Culture of Hate” by Lee Harvey for PBS. His color work can be seen in “Singing Our Way to Freedom” (PBS) and “Primate Cinema” (Sundance and Berlin Film Festival).
